All About Me!
My name is Cheryl Miller and I am in my 5th year here at the University of Lethbridge. I am a general humanities major which means that English, Art, History, and a bit of French make up my degree. I was born and raised in a very small town called Milk River which is just 45 minutes south of Lethbridge. I loved being raised in a small town because you really grow up with a sense of community and learn how to take care of everyone around you, and I think that is why I also enjoy the faculty so much - because you get that same sense of family here! I decided I wanted to become a teacher way back in grade 9 while doing a job shadow at the elementary school. I fell in love with the profession that day and haven’t looked back since! I have loved every age group I have got to work with so far which includes: preschoolers while teaching swimming lessons, grade 4 during work experience in high school, grade 6/7 coaching the volleyball team, kindergarten in Ed 2500,
grade 5/6 combination in PS1, and recently grade 3 in my PS2.
Growing up in a rural community meant that there weren’t many opportunities to do super exciting things, which lead me to my love for sports and all things creative. Through high school I was a very dedicated basketball, volleyball, and softball player. I took every art course I could, although I was limited to distance learning programs because of the lack of interest in my school. 5 years later and here I am finding new ways to channel my creativity instead – through my lesson plans! I still have a love for sports, but have focused on new sports such as golf and snowboarding now. Anyone who knows me knows that I also have a very motherly love for my bichon yorkie named Bentley because I was never allowed to have a dog growing up, and then my parents got me a puppy after I moved away so that I would be motivated to come home and visit
more on weekends (those sneaky parents!!) Besides my incredibly supportive parents, I also grew up with 2 older brothers Danny and Devon. Recently joining our family is also my awesome new sister-in-law Rachelle who is also a teacher, YAY!
I am very blessed to be choosing a career that I am so passionate about, and throughout this webpage you will find some of my viewpoints about current educational topics and well as my insight into my own teaching goals. Thanks for taking the time to read about my journey and my life! Enjoy the site!
